IHSS+ Alzheimer's is a 10-week training program that teaches caregivers practical skills to help them care for older adults experiencing symptoms of living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, in Los Angeles County, California.

About the Program

IHSS+ Alzheimer's is a 10-week, instructor-led, online training program for IHSS caregivers that prepares you with skills and knowledge to maximize the care you provide to the consumer. You will learn practical skills including:

  • Alzheimer's disease and related dementias
  • Body Mechanics
  • CPR & First Aid
  • Infection Control
  • Nutrition & Diet
  • And more!

You will receive a stipend upon successful completion of requirements. Stipends will be provided for a limited time. 

Program Eligibility

IHSS caregivers must be:

  • Age 18+
  • Speak English, Spanish, or Cantonese
  • Provide care to an IHSS consumer who meets the following criteria:
    • Resides in Los Angeles County
    • Age 50+
    • Is a member of LA Care
    • Show signs of memory loss based on survey
    • Speaks English, Spanish, or Cantonese

Training Duration

Classes are 3.5 hours and held once a week for 10 weeks. 

Classes are fully online via Zoom!

Class Languages

Classes are offered in English, Spanish, and Cantonese.
