California Resources 

California Caregiver Resources
  • Alameda County Social Services Agency – Provides services and resources for older adults. Covers Alameda County, which includes cities such as Oakland, Fremont, Hayward, Berkeley, and Alameda.
  • California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR) – Provides fact sheets that include Nursing home information, residential care, community care retirement communities, Medi-Cal/estate planning, Elder Abuse, CANHR’s Guide to Reverse Mortgage Alternatives, Home and Community Based Services Programs (HCBS), Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), Legal Issues and other resources.
  • California Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) – Coordinates a wide array of services to seniors and adults with disabilities at the community level and serves as the focal point for local aging concerns.
  • California Association for Adult Day Services - Provides advocacy, training, and education. This includes best practices in caregiving, management, and operational issues. Resources and support, and certification programs.
  • California Association of Area Agencies on Aging – Provides information regarding services to Family Caregivers, including counseling, training, and respite care. They provide care across all of California.
  • California Caregiver Resource Center – Provides videos, podcasts, classes, caregiver spotlights, and caregiver stories. 
  • California Coalition on Family Caregiving – Provides support in identifying care options, allowing caregivers to take breaks while ensuring people living with dementia receive quality care, and organizing workshops and community events focused on caregiver well-being, self-care strategies, and dementia awareness. They provide care across all of California.
  • California Department of Social Services, In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Program - Provides daily living activity services such as bathing, grooming, and dressing; assistance with chores; support with basic health-related tasks such as administering medications or monitoring health conditions; and temporary relief for family caregivers. They provide care across all of California.
  • Chico State Enterprises Passage – Provides resources for caregivers and older adults by providing and supporting the critical services and community resources they need. Primarily serves the Chico area and surrounding regions in Northern California.
  • Del Mar Caregiver Resource Center – Provides information and referral, family consultation, education, support groups, and legal consultation.
  • Del Oro Caregiver Resource Center – Provides in-person and online support groups for caregivers. Covers Northern California, including counties like Placer, El Dorado, Nevada, Sierra, and others in the area.
  • Family Caregiver Alliance – Provides Information, resources, and support to family caregivers through online resources, webinars, and local programs. They provide care across all of California.
  • Institute on Aging – Provides short-term financial assistance to help relieve caregiver burden. Primarily serves the Bay Area in Northern California, including cities like San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin.
  • La Casa Adult Day Health Center – Provides well-being for caregivers and offers a range of wellness and leisure services. Serves the Los Angeles area, specifically in and around the San Fernando Valley.
  • Redwood Caregiver Resource Center – Provides caregiver services, support groups, and events. Covers the North Bay region, including counties like Sonoma, Napa, Marin, and Mendocino.
  • The Sandwich Club – Provides emotional support, advice, and resources, care opportunities, and social connection. Primarily serves the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Valley Caregiver Resource Center, OASIS – Provides resources for caregivers to help families and communities master the challenges of caring for adults with brain-impaired conditions. Serves the Central Valley area, including cities like Fresno, Modesto, and Stockton, and other surrounding regions.

National Caregiver Resources
  • Caregiver Nation Network – Provides opportunities for caregivers to connect with one another, sharing experience, advice, and emotional support, and they also offer access to information and training on dementia care. 
  • Creating and Advancing Caregiving Research and Evidence (CARE) – Provides materials such as policy recommendations in dementia care and promotes better support for caregivers. 
  • Eldercare Locator – Provides a nationwide directory that helps families find local services for older adults, including dementia-specific care providers, support groups, and care options.
  • Family Caregiver Alliance, Caregiver Resources – Provides educational materials regarding understanding dementia, communication strategies, managing challenging behaviors, and self-care tips for caregivers.
  • Institute for Healthcare Improvement, My Health Checklist – Provides tools designed to help caregivers and healthcare providers assess the needs of individuals with dementia and comprehensive care planning, and strategies for managing symptoms and enhancing the quality of life for people living with dementia. 
  • John A. Hartford Foundation, Age-Friendly Resources for Caregivers – Provides information about caring for older adults through various age-friendly resources for caregivers. 
  • PHI, Matching Services Registries – Tracks matching service registries throughout the country, which "match" home care consumers with workers, based on needs, preferences, and availability. 
  • Resource Guide for Family Caregivers – The National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) created this guide based on existing resources that support the 2022 National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers. The guide provides information for caregivers about resources that help them stay healthy, socially connected, and engaged with culturally appropriate support. 
National Dementia Resources
  • Alzheimer Association – Provides educational materials, caregiver support, and a 24/7 helpline that offers information, support, and guidance; a local chapter that offers support groups, educational programs and community events, research updates, tools, and resources for developing care plans; and various online resources such as webinars, podcasts, and articles. 
  • Alzheimer Foundation of America – Provides caregiver support, educational programs, and a helpline for those caring for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
  • Cognability – Provides educational programs such as workshops and seminars to educate caregivers and healthcare professionals related to cognitive health and dementia, and consultation services such as professional guidance for individuals and families navigating dementia care.
  • Dementia Friendly America – Provides educational materials and training for caregivers, offers helplines and local services for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers, and dementia awareness events. 
  • Kickstart Asses Evaluate Refer (KAER) Toolkit – Provides evaluation guidelines for evaluating the severity of dementia symptoms and determining appropriate interventions, and referral resources to appropriate services.
  • Life with Dementia – Provides tips for people with dementia and their caregivers to live better lives, get care and support, and plan ahead.
  • National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center – Provides local and national resources, including service providers, support groups, and educational programs.

National Policy and Advocacy Resources

  • Act on RAISE  – A campaign for Action on the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers.
  • Administration for Community Living, National Caregiver Support Collaborative – An initiative to increase the recognition, support, and inclusion of family, and tribal caregivers across the country. It provides supportive services, collects data, and — most importantly — supports the well-being of caregivers and the people receiving care.
  • American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) – Provides various resources such as information articles, caregiver support, financial and legal guidance, community programs, webinars, and workshops.
  • American Society on Aging – The largest multidisciplinary association in aging, with a diverse membership of more than 5,2000 across the United States. 
  • Better with Age: A Guide to Funding in a Longevity Society – A report that reviews the landscape of funding in aging, offers a demographic portrait of older America, and presents opportunities for funders working on health equity, LGBTQ+ issues, children/youth, housing, economic security, rural life, caregiving, and community development to increase their impact by considering how aging intersects with their investments.
  • Caring Across Generations – Uniting a powerful coalition across millions and working to build real, helpful, thoughtful care systems.
  • Justice in Aging, Resource Library – Provides a resource library that focuses on issues related to aging, including dementia.
  • National Council on Aging – Provides resources, tools, best practices, and advocacy that our nation needs to ensure that every person can age with health and financial security.
  • PHI and National Alliance for Caregiving, Together in Care – Empowers direct care workers and family caregivers in providing care and support to older adults and people with disabilities. 
  • Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers – Reimagining how to support family caregivers so they can do more than just try to keep up - they can thrive.
